What's a Service Sorority? The primary purpose is for our sisters to come together and giving back, while also promoting professionalism, culture, character development, sisterhood, and leadership. As a member of the Greek community, you will be able to help change and shape the community around you. With philanthropy being one of the main pillars of many Greek organizations, community service and volunteering are at the forefront of Greek life activities. The Greek system is the largest network of volunteers, with members donating over 10 million hours of volunteer service each year.
How Much Time Does It Take Up?Like most good things in life, one gets out whatever they put into an effort or organization. The first year will take a little more time learning about the Greek life, our organization and membership. Participation in many of the activities to get to know the other members is a good way to enjoy the benefits of Greek life. As with college in general, after the first year, students have usually figured out how much time they can put into the group without sacrificing their academic progress. While Greek life is a bonding experience, all groups recognize that one's academic work comes first. We encourage those who are able to balance having something similar to another college course load to their schedule to be open in becoming Greek.
How Much Does It Cost? The dues are reasonable and occur per quarter. We understand that as a student, a large amount of money is going to university and having to pay additional to that can be a turn off. Thankfully for you, We are transparent with our money within the chapter and even nationally. We also discuss our expenses that are included in the membership fees and optional expenses that are not included. We are flexible and have financial assistance and payment plans if needed to accommodate.
What is the Alcohol Policy?Delta Kappa Delta's philanthropy is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention. Child abuse can be linked to the use of alcohol. Therefore, sisters cannot associate their letters with alcohol. This does not restrict a sister from making her own choice on her own time, but when representing Delta Kappa Delta, we do follow a zero tolerance policy.
Does Your Organization Haze? We are a non-hazing sorority. Therefore, we are completely against any forms of hazing. It is also stated by our National Guidelines as well as Our Chapters' & Charters' Universities Guidelines that there is a zero tolerance policy against hazing. If you have any questions or concerns, If you have any concerns, questions, or complaints related to hazing, please feel free to reach out to our National Anti-Hazing Director at [email protected].
Anti Hazing Resources: stophazing.org/resources/ Is Greek life similar to the movies and on TV?While Greek life is also about enjoying life on campus, the movie and TV depiction of Greek organizations is a exaggeration and fictitious picture of reality. Greek life is about academic and social balance. Greeks work hard and enjoy their time together while also being able to contribute to their organization and the community.
Will Joining Affect My Grades?DKD puts academics as a number one priority. The academic portion of your university career is one significant determinant in your future success. A primary purpose of the sorority community is to encourage and develop high scholastic achievement among its members. Several factors contribute to this academic atmosphere, including peer tutoring, upperclassman counseling, leadership training, chapter study hours, and many more. These all will help new students become more familiar to the longer and more intense studying that college requires over time.
Each sister also is required to maintain a 2.50 GPA once they cross into the sisterhood. To ensure sisters are meeting this GPA, our academic chair provides one on one support to sisters needing an extra hand. Through presentations on study tools to creating a robust study schedule to studying together, our academic chair and sisters support one another to ensure each sister is reaching her full potential academically. Additionally, we keep track of study hours every week and encourage sisters to get more involved with their academic through going to office hours and attending study groups. Our first priority is to ensure all sisters graduate and are an inspiration for actives that will continue in the same paths. What Are The Benefits of Joining? As the First & Only South Asian Interest Service Organization, We offer programs that allow you to give back to the community while building a sense of compassion and involvement. Our networks allow you to strive to become a knowledgeable professional. When becoming a sister of Delta Kappa Delta, you surround yourself with those who see greatness within you and those who can challenge you to be the best version of yourself. Throughout that week, there are required events that are recommended for attendance.
